Friday night at Middleford Speedway was a special night for racers and fans alike. Young Mod Lite racer Donnie Ackenbrack bid farewell to the track for a while as he is going to serve our country as a United States Marine. There was a special feeling of pride as Staff Sergeant Lousk of the United States Marine Corps waved the green flag for the start of Donnie’s Pro Mod Lite race. Donnie was honored with gifts and words from those who know him well and from those who are just proud of the young man. We all wish Donnie a safe journey.
Feature Race Results:
270 Micro Sprints, 15 Laps:
Justin Jones scores the 270 win …. Justin Jones has been vying for a win in the 270 micros but that checkered flag has been elusive, until this week. Jones started the race in the fifth spot alongside the X1 of JT Knight. Bryan Luberti and Ken Lester Lined up on the front row. Lester was quick to take the race lead but the back of the field was on the move forward. JT Knight was the first to get to the front of the pack, Jones soon followed. The two cars were racy until a mechanical problem sent Knight into a spin for a caution and ended his night. The restart had Jones in front followed by Lester and the 88 of Kellie Lewis. Contact between the 55 of Hank Steller and the 1 of Mike Wix sent Wix for a spin collecting Luberti as well. Jones continued to lead for the restart as Lewis made her way around Lester for the second spot. 600 Micro Sprints, 20 Laps:
JayDog makes it to the winners circle….Jeremy “JayDog” Lynch had a 4 week streak of bad luck that has finally been broken. Lynch took the race lead from pole sitter Stephanie Jones and did not falter for the 20 lap race. Hard racing was the name of the game behind them. Joey Startt challenged Jones for the second spot but was unable to take the position. The 9 car of Jon Warfield got sideways, collecting Matt Esham and Matt Smith, ending the night for Esham and Smith. The restart gathered the cars closely, Jason Warfield made his move to get around Startt and take over the third position. A spin at the halfway point by Dean Seemans pulled the pack together again but there was no stopping JayDog as he cruised to the checkered flag.. Rookie Mod Lites, 15 Laps:
Josh Clark leads the Rookies across the line …...Josh Clark is back to his winning ways. The Rookie took hold of the lead and held on for the entire race. Close racing between Brandon Watkins and Chace Biron for the third spot kept the race exciting as they switched positions. Biron would win that battle and Zac Weller in his 1 car moved in behind him. Pole sitter Stacy Roberts remained in the second spot until a spin with two laps to go moved her to the rear. Clark stayed steady as he crossed the line first followed by Biron and Weller. Jr Mod Lites, 15 Laps:
It’s Magee’s night for the win .... Adam Weber and Derek Magee once again were back as the two car race of the evening. The start was close with speaks flying on the first lap as contact was made. Magee drove to the front for the race lead. A caution and restart from a Weber spin with 4 laps to go gave him a shot at taking the race but Magee was not going to give up his spot and maintained the lead to the end. Pro Mod Lites, 15 Laps:
Richie Wilson makes it win #3 in a row….. Richie Wilson took the pole and turned it into a win. Four of the five Pro Mod Lites signed up were able to start the race. Wilson, Tyler Hughes and Donnie Ackenbrack started the race with battle for position and contact between all of them ending with Hughes taking a spin for a caution. The racing continued to be close as Ackenbrack received contact from behind by Hughes sending Ackenbrack around. Both cars were sent to the rear of the group. Ackenbrack was able to regain his second spot and followed Wilson to the flag along with Shawn Weber and Hughes. TUSA Mod-Lites, Mid-Atlantic Regional, 30 Laps:
Steve White earns the TUSA win…. As anyone would expect, the TUSA’s provided an exciting race for all the fans. Kevin McKinney and Steve White led the thundering herd to the green flag. McKinney set the pace for the beginning portion of the race before White would take over the lead. Jimmy Wills and Tyler Hughes had a close battle for the third position until an unfortunate break ended Hughes’ race. The caution gathered the field together as McKinney tried to get that first spot back from White with Wills on McKinney’s heels. A tight race for fourth between Tyler Reed and Ty Short ended with Reed claiming the spot. ¾ Scale Late Models, 15 Laps:
Kerry King returns to the winners circle… Pole sitter Ray Gulliver kept that first position until the second lap when King made his move for the lead and grabbed it. Dylan Evans took over the second spot a lap later. A late race spin by Evans sent him behind Gulliver but he was able to get back to the second spot, following King to the checkered flag. NAPA Chargers:
Jay Sipple gets his checkered flag… Jay Sipple has raced hard with the Chargers but had not scored a win until this week. Sipple sat on the pole with Matt Long lined up beside him. The second row of Joey Waters and Derek Swafford were on their heels. Sipple jumped out to the front as the pack battled behind him. Kyle Tubbs was charging forward from his sixth starting spot, racing hard with every car along the way and to the second spot, until a mechanical problem would send him to the infield with only a couple laps to go. The 3 car of Jay Worth had an impressive race moving his car through the field from starting 9th to a second place finish right behind Sipple. Long, followed by Tyler White and Waters would round out the top 5.
